METRAC is getting ready to look back on 2015 and plan for the future at its Annual General Meeting. Here are five reasons to consider attending this event!
1) Important facts and figures from our work in 2015
The METRAC staff and board will present our Annual Report, which features our programming and events from January to December 2015. Learn about the wonderful work of our Safety, ReAct and Community Justice Programs, as well as METRAC’s general programming. Did you know that 171 community members attended our “Reclaiming our Narratives” event on gender and racial profiling in November 2015? Explore this and so much more at our AGM!
2) Meet and mingle with METRAC staff, board, volunteers and members
Take the time to catch up with old friends and meet new ones in METRAC’s welcoming environment. Did you know that more than 60 volunteers contributed almost 2,500 volunteer hours to METRAC in 2015? Celebrate our volunteers, or consider becoming one yourself!
3) A cutting-edge presentation on Technology Safety
With the rise of stalkers using surveillance apps to track people’s movements, technology safety is more important than ever. The second half of our Annual General Meeting will feature a presentation on this topic. Here is the presentation description:
Technological innovations have greatly transformed our way of life. Computers, Smart phones and other mobile devices have made it possible for us to communicate with our friends and loved ones, share information and optimize our daily activities through the use of social networking sites, and other useful mobile applications.
However, as technology advances, so are the risks associated with it. This presentation aims to equip the audience with a basic understanding and awareness of mobile technology risks, some of the methods used by perpetrators to monitor a user’s activity and how to avoid them.
4) Participate in discussions that will guide METRAC’s future work
The Annual General Meeting doesn’t only offer a glimpse into the agency’s past work, it also provides a space to discuss the agency’s future. With many opportunities on the horizon regarding campus safety and access to justice for survivors of sexual violence, this is an exciting time to contribute to METRAC’s vision of a safer Ontario for all.
5) If the four previous reasons haven’t convinced you: there will be free food!
