  Community Greeting

Dear METRAC community,

Thanks to all community members, board members, volunteers and staff who attended our Annual General Meeting. For those unable to attend, we invite you to read our 2015 Annual Report. The team is now looking to the end of the year with many projects in sights for 2017, including developing alternative pathways to justice for sexual assault, creating new education tools, and increasing access to healthcare for Trans and gender non-conforming folks. We can’t wait to share the details with you. Until then, METRAC wishes everyone a happy and safe holiday season.

Best wishes,

The METRAC Team

Legal Information Training (North York and Thornhill)

Description: Geared to service providers and community leaders in the North York and Thornhill areas, this training will give you information to better understand, communicate and respond to family law issues for women leaving a relationship, especially when abuse is involved.

The “Separation and Legal Divorce” training will explore issues that concern vulnerable women who are considering ending a relationship. Guest speakers will explain the difference between separation and divorce, and some “first considerations” (e.g. who leaves the home, who cares for children, how support is arranged). The discussion will include legal options such as separation agreements, getting a divorce and how to enforce payments from an ex-partner. Presentations will be made on specific topics, such as the difference between civil and religious divorce, and recognizing a foreign divorce in Canada.
