METRAC's Community Safety Audit Resource Kit

METRAC's Community Safety Audit Resource Kit provides all the necessary tools and information to organize a safety audit in your community. The Kit enables diverse community members to evaluate their feelings of violence and oppression and reflect on their differing safety needs. The Kit asks questions and includes a checklist about physical structures, attitudes, discriminatory practices, and security measures that affect safety. The Community Safety Audit Resource Kit is available in English, Chinese (simplified), French, Punjabi, Spanish, and Tamil.

METRAC offers training sessions for residents of the City of Toronto to talk about the needs of a community group and discuss the social and physical environment and how the audit can help. For further information, visit our Safety Events page.

METRAC Campus Safety Audit Services Package

With the recent increase in incidents of sexual assaults on campuses across Canada, METRAC's services provide an opportunity for institutions to respond effectively to the increasing fear of violence and crime and to create a safe campus environment for everyone. METRAC’s Safety Audit for Campuses has been formally adopted by the Council of Ontario Universities and Colleges since 1992.

Moving Forward: Making Transit Safer

METRAC's Women's Safety Audit of the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) in 1988 and 1989 led to the creation of Designated Waiting Areas, Emergency Intercoms, the Request Stop Program on buses, and improvements and changes to the new Rapid Transit (RT) stations. This is the report of those Safety Audits, published by the TTC in 1989.
