METRAC’s Community Outreach and Education Program reaches out to diverse communities with innovative public education initiatives about violence against women, youth, and children. We provide referrals and information about community services via telephone, fax, and email. Every year, the program’s perspectives are featured in a variety of local and national newspaper articles, radio interviews, and television interviews. In 2007, we launched RePlay: Finding Zoe, our innovative educational video game to promote healthy, equal relationships amongst youth 8 to 14. We also launched RePlay written resources for youth, teachers, and parents. The Outreach Program develops and distributes easy-to-read, accessible guidebooks, brochures, booklets, tuck cards, youth zines, and bookmarks on important issues such as stalking, sexual assault, dating violence, children’s safety, community services, and services for women, youth, and children. They are available to service providers and the public in English, and some are in French and several other languages. Respect in Action: Youth Preventing Violence (ReAct) is another initiative of the Outreach Program. Every year, ReAct delivers peer-to-peer violence prevention workshops, trainings, and speaking engagements to thousands of youth, educators, and youth workers across the Greater Toronto Area. |
