Become a Member

As a member of METRAC, you will be a valuable asset to the struggle to end violence against all women and children. You will support anti-violence programs, providing input into all METRAC does day-to-day. As a member, you will participate in grassroots anti-violence women as you show your commitment to ending violence against women and demonstrate your desire for positive social change. We need people like you to join us!

There are several additional member benefits. You will receive:
  • Special members-only E-Bulletins to let you know what's new at METRAC.
  • 10% discount on all METRAC publication orders.
  • METRAC's bi-annual Newsletter, packed with articles about safety, information about events, projects, programs, and new publications.
  • Invitation to the Annual General Meeting (AGM), with voting privileges. In the case of an organizational or corporate membership, a designated representative will have voting privileges.
  • Opportunity to apply for membership on METRAC's Board of Directors. By serving as a Board member, you will help make important day-to-day decisions within the organization.
  • Invitation to all of METRAC's special community events, including the Annual Community Safety Night and fundraisers.
  • Invitation to METRAC's members-only What's New in the Law Forum to learn about current legal issues for women, youth, and children.
  • A "thank you" in METRAC's Annual Report.

METRAC's annual membership fees are as follows:

  • $10 (sliding scale from $0 to $10): youth 15-24, students, under-employed or unemployed individuals
  • $25: other individuals
  • $35: non-profit organizations (one delegate can vote at AGM)
  • For-profit corporations (one delegate can vote at AGM), based on annual budget:
    • $50,000 or less: $100
    • $50,000 or more: $250
    • $1,000,000 or more: $500

Become a Volunteer

NOTE: METRAC is not accepting Placement Students at this time. We are accepting volunteer applications; however, volunteer interviews and training will not be held again until 2009. We will keep all applications on file for a later date.

METRAC seeks dynamic volunteers who are committed to ending violence and discrimination against women, youth, and children. Volunteers are an integral part of METRAC's team and we are grateful for their contributions of their valuable time, talents, and energy towards making communities safer.


What do METRAC volunteers do?

As a volunteer, you will be a positive anti-violence role-model and may assist with various activities, including:

  • METRAC's Board of Directors
  • METRAC's Special Committees
  • Research
  • Education and Outreach
  • Administration
  • Special Events
  • Fundraising

Volunteer Training & Orientation and Commitment

Volunteer training and orientation sessions are held periodically. Attendance is mandatory for new volunteers. You will learn about METRAC and its policies, our anti-oppression framework and practices, our programs and activities, and various volunteer opportunities.

METRAC volunteers must make at least a eight-month commitment to the organization.


How to Apply to Become a METRAC Volunteer

Your application will be reviewed and you may be contacted for an interview. If your application is successful, you will participate in the mandatory METRAC Volunteer training and orientation session and begin volunteering afterward for a minimum of eight months.
