5 Reasons to Join Team METRAC for the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon

In October 2015, METRAC rounded up a group of dedicated volunteers, board members and staff to commit to walking, running or rolling a 5K, a half-marathon or a marathon for the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. It was a great success; together, we exceeded our goal of raising $10,000! Click here to read our retrospective on last year’s Marathon.

We are as ready as ever to kick-start this year’s Team METRAC, but for that, we need YOU to join the Team! The goal is to register 50 team members, and for each team member to fundraise $500 for a total of $25,000. This amount will help METRAC deepen and expand its programming.

Here is a list of 5 reasons to join Team METRAC:

  1. Get active for a good cause

The long days of Summer are here and you may be itching to get outside; training for a 5K, half-marathon or marathon run/walk/roll is a good way to benefit from the sunshine and oxygen that surrounds us. Physical activity makes us stronger, gives us energy and reduces stress. All of this, coupled with the knowledge that you’re helping communities prevent gender-based violence, make for a good exercise motivator!

  1. Broadcast the work of METRAC to your friends and family

As you fundraise for your goal of $500, you may have to reach out to friends, family, acquaintances and co-workers to ask for a little help. In doing so, you can explain to them what METRAC means to you, and what it means for the community!   1. Meet people and make friends

Throughout the Summer and into the Fall, team METRAC will stay in contact to encourage each other. We’ll create an email list where we can send out health tips, plan to hold a mock race for practice, and generally motivate each other to reach our goals. Race Day will feel like a reunion!

  1. Goal-oriented achievements

Having a set goal of achieving your run/walk/roll in a certain time-frame, or completing the race at all, is an excellent way to keep motivated about exercising in the coming months. Monitoring your progress through training may help you feel accomplished!

  1. Welcoming to everyone

Everyone is welcomed to join Team METRAC. We encourage all people, inclusive of age, culture, disability status, faith, gender identity, geographic location, immigration status, income, occupation, race and sexual orientation to register and take part in the challenge.
